Wednesday, November 13, 2024 parents, students, and numerous staff members gathered at Grover Cleveland High School to attend our Curriculum Night. This event was designed to showcase and familiarize our students and families with the academic courses and extracurriculars that Cleveland offers.
With all departments represented, students and their parents had the chance to learn about courses ranging from AP Calculus AB to our music programs. Focused in Gym 2, with several presentations held in adjoining classrooms on the first floor, teachers and student volunteers had the chance to share their experiences in their respective programs. Presentations included pamphlets with curriculum details, as well as physical demonstrations ranging from previous coursework, such as “Triggy” – a cardboard mouse – made by last year’s AP Calculus students as part of their final project, to a demonstration of the effect of spin at the table representing Physics.
Parents had the opportunity to speak to teachers and other school staff about the environment their children would be in both inside the classroom, in extracurriculars, and while in the halls. Both Ms. Martinez, our Parent Coordinator, and Ms. Valdez, our SAPIS counselor were on deck to answer any questions from parents regarding the well-being and safety of their children at school.
While on the topic of student safety and well-being, those present at the Curriculum Night had the pleasure of attending the unveiling of the new mural in the conflict resolution room. Led by Ms.Kopliz, as well as her team of artists, Mural Club spent months on creating a piece that was representative of the values Cleveland wants to instill in those who pass through its doors. Themes of friendship, cooperation, and acceptance are evident in the painting, showcasing the effort and thought put into the creation of this beautiful piece of artwork. Making the ribbon-cutting ceremony even more special, was the presence of our superintendent, Dr. Hoa Tu.
Overall, the night was a huge success, with a turnout of parents that displayed to all of those present a growing interest in Cleveland and what it had to offer. We hope that after a long night, all teachers, staff, and students involved knew the impact they had made that night, and how these events will continue to help Cleveland grow as a school of academic and artistic interest.
