The GCHS Coat Drive

Over the last 43 years, almost 20,000 Americans have frozen to death (www.EPA.gov). The Grover Cleveland Fashion Club knew of this matter and acted on it with the 2022 winter coat drive.

What Is The Coat Drive?
The coat drive is a club-hosted event that aims to collect as many coats as possible for children, teenagers, and adults that live in New York City, so that no one goes cold during this winter season. This is not the first time the school has hosted the coat drive since the same event was held around this same time last year.

Mr. Hellman, the club adviser, who is also in charge of the drive, expressed concern about how recent events like inflation and outgrowing coats might leave a child cold. “I think it is important because it’s not even just high school children, but even younger children who grew out of their winter coats and need new coats. But because of inflation, heightened food prices, and heightened gas prices, a lot of people can’t just go out and buy a new coat,” said Mr. Hellman.

What can you do?
If you have coats that you are no longer using, please consider donating them to the drive in the main office or in Mr. Hellman’s (room 148B next to gyms 1 & 2). If this isn’t an option then there are other things you can do. Talk about the drive to students, teachers, and even your parents to spread the word.
